A community library with a resource center has come into operation with the help of the Japanese government at Mukam Sidhuwa of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality of Dhankuta.
Takahiro Tamura, deputy head of the Japanese embassy mission, and Chatharjorpati rural municipality president Chhatra Bahadur Subba jointly inaugurated the multi-faceted and multi-skilled library on the occasion of Library Day. The library has been built at a cost of 12.2 million 30 thousand by the Japanese government, 5.5 million by the municipality and 30.000 by the local residents.
Chhatra Bahadur Subba, chairman of the rural municipality, said that under the three-year project of the Japanese government, the construction work of the library has been completed with the coordination and technical support of SVA and Read Nepal. The library has a collection of useful books for children and senior citizens.
In a nine-room building with two assembly halls, there are children's room, youth extra, women's, multi-technical, ICT, library and risk reduction room as well as disabled-friendly room. There are more than three thousand books in the
library. Arjun Ghimire, the chairman of the library, said that reading material will be added in the intellectual, cultural and social fields at the local level in the coming days. He said that in order to run the
library sustainably, agricultural technical, mechanical training, homestay, vegetable processing and computer training will also be provided for free.
