It was very sad to read the news titled 'Ukalo Chaddei Dengi' published on June 27 in Kantipur. Dengue, an insect disease that was not a public health problem for Nepal until a decade ago and appeared sporadically after the monsoon rains, has now spread throughout the country. Dengue, which spreads only in some districts of the central and eastern Terai of Nepal and disappears with the onset of winter after the rains, is now a serious public health problem of an insect-borne disease.

By mid-June, dengue-infected patients have been found in 73 districts, except for the four Himalayan districts of Jumla, Humla, Dolpa and Mustang. Dengue with a high infection rate infected 54 thousand people in 2079 and 88 people died out of those infected. Since last year, dengue has been confirmed in about 1,500 people across the country.

Only 165 people have been infected in Kathmandu Valley, 123 in Jhapa and 86 in Chitwan. There is news that the government agencies related to the control of dengue and other infectious diseases have written to the local government for the control of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. However, dengue has created a public health problem in about 100 countries of the world, including South American countries and South-East Asia. Dengue, which infected 500,000 people worldwide 24 years ago, reached 6.5 million last year.

Climate change, more than average rainfall, low level of public awareness, increasing carelessness due to low mortality rate, change in lifestyle, strengthening of the immune system of Aedes aegypti mosquito, in addition to mobilizing the insect disease control supervisor working in every district public health office to survey and destroy mosquitoes. Dengue infection has also increased due to lack of attention and to destroy mosquito larvae and adults, empty tires, broken glass, pots not being disposed of safely, coolers not being cleaned from time to time.

It is not enough to control it by writing to the local or state government, it takes time to reach the letter. Therefore, you should be able to quickly deploy your mechanisms under control. In the past, the concerned disease assistant or supervisor of the district was mobilized to control any disease. Therefore, vector control assistants or supervisors of every district should be mobilized and conduct a campaign to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes. The federal government should coordinate with the local government and mobilize every educational institution, health volunteer, local organization etc. to spread surveillance and public awareness at the doorstep.
