The news published on Tuesday in Kantipur, 'Self-interested Khadka is the key to energy', has undermined the good governance slogans of our big parties. Do KP Sharma Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba not read the news, do they not understand the people's needs? Didn't they know about MP Deepak Khadka, who was infamous for grabbing the scout's land in Lanchaur for years?
The news came a while back that Khadka did not pay the rent of Scout's land, and the police had to be deployed to vacate the land. He is also the founder chairman of two hydropower projects in Khadka. Did the top leaders not even know that they were building a five-star hotel against the forest rules? Why was an MP with such controversial character and conflicting interests made a minister? Oli and Deuba should answer this to the people.
The parties that do not give a single ministerial post to Dalits, who constitute 13 percent of the population, and give only 8 percent to women, who are more than half of the population, should also answer to the people about inclusive slogans and good governance. The common people wanted to see only leaders with a clean image become ministers and not those who had conflicted interests and tainted controversies. But some ministers have been included in the Oli government against the sentiments of the people.
