Bill to establish Medical University in Geta in House of Representatives

Education Minister Vidya Bhattarai presented a proposal to the Parliament to consider the bill which was registered and passed in the National Assembly on October 19, 2080. In the bill, it has been proposed to operate the Geta Medical College established in Dhangadhi in Far West as a university. Participating in the discussion, MP Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai said that the bill should be passed quickly, recalling that the parliamentary committee had also studied and suggested the government to advance Geta Medical College as a university.

MP Raghuji Pant said that if the university is established, it will improve the healthcare services of Far West. He said that it will also affect the economy there. MP Pant emphasized that the university should be established only after meeting the criteria. He suggested that the prime minister should be made autonomous by having a guardian instead of a chancellor. MP Rajendra Kumar KC emphasized that the bill should be passed quickly as there is a great attraction of medical education in Nepal. He expressed his belief that if the bill is passed and the university is established, the money going to India for treatment and study will stop. Speaking in the discussion, the MPs said that the bill should be passed and the university should be established as soon as possible. The infrastructure construction work has been completed in Geta for the establishment of the university, and a 100-bed hospital is also being operated.
