The police suppressed the protest held for the justice of women doctors in Kolkata, India. According to the BBC, the police used baton charges, water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd after angry protesters shouted slogans during the protest on Tuesday.

The protestors stated that the police lathi-charged the 'peaceful protest'. The police have arrested at least 100 protesters for spreading violence.

A 31-year-old trainee doctor of a hospital in Kolkata was murdered on August 9 after being raped. The body of the doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College, half-naked and injured.

After the killing of a 31-year-old doctor who had gone to rest after her duty at the hospital, protests broke out in Kolkata. The protestors have demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a volunteer at the hospital and is investigating. CBI has been given the responsibility of conducting a detailed investigation into the incident after widespread complaints by the local police about the delay in the investigation by the local police. In protest against the

incident, protests have been raging in major cities of India including Kolkata, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Guhavati, Chennai and Prayagraj. The protestors have put forward demands including the safety of health workers, strengthening the hospital's security system and making a safe place for rest. The protests in Kolkata after the

incident have been seen as uncontrolled and politically motivated. It has seen the involvement of protesters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who are dissatisfied with the state government.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party, BJP, is the opposition party in West Bengal. BJP protesters have accused the Banerjee government of creating an unsafe environment for women. They claim that due to this, crimes such as murder of doctors are committed.
