Nepal suffered a shocking one-wicket defeat at the hands of Oman in the final match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League-Two on Thursday morning.
There was only one ball game left when Oman reached victory. Having a target of 221 runs for victory, Oman scored 223 runs after losing nine wickets in 49.5 overs.
This defeat continued Nepal's poor performance in the tournament and created a lot of pressure on the team. This is Nepal's fifth defeat in the six games played so far and the team is in the seventh place out of eight teams. Oman is in sixth place just above Nepal and has five points.
After losing the toss, Nepal got the chance to bat first and scored 220 runs for nine wickets. Captain Rohit Paudel scored the highest 60 runs for Nepal, which had a poor start. Similarly, Gulsan Jha contributed 53 runs. In reply, Oman had a good start. After Gulson took five wickets for 47 runs, Oman struggled to reach the victory.
Oman needing eight runs to win in the last over, Sakil Ahmed hit a four off the second ball. Similarly, when two runs were needed in the last two balls, Kalimullah hit a boundary and gave Oman a sensational victory. Despite the loss, Gulson remained the 'player of the match'.
