Ravichandran Ashwin's aggressive century gave India a strong start on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh on Thursday. At the end of the day's play, India scored 339 runs for 6 wickets. Earlier, Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mohammadu took 4 wickets and created pressure on India.

After the first hour of play, India was under pressure by losing 3 wickets till they scored 34 runs.

At the end of the second session of the day, India reached a position of 144 runs after losing 6 wickets. Ashwin scored 102 runs and Ravindra Jadeja scored 86 runs. They have already shared a 195 run not out. Bangladeshi captain Najmul Hussain Santu had decided to bowl first amid the possibility of rain and Hussain proved it right by taking 3 wickets early on. He took one more wicket after lunch.

Bangladesh is now in India after winning the historic Test series 2-0 against Pakistan. However, the team has yet to win a Test against India. After the afternoon session, Chennai-born Ashwin combined with Jadeja to frustrate the Bangladeshi bowlers. Coincidentally, the first responsibility of both is spin bowling. But their aggressive batting kept the home fans of Chennai happy. After the day's play, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal said the team was feeling relaxed.

He said, 'We have a plan on how to advance the game. We were feeling relaxed when Ashwin and Jadeja were batting.' Ashwin, 38, hit 12 boundaries in 18 balls while completing his sixth Test century. Hasan made the upper order of India his prey. He dismissed both captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the same six runs and Bangladesh looked in a comfortable position.

Jaiswal shared a partnership of 62 runs with another left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant. This is where India's resistance started. Hasan broke that partnership by taking Pant's wicket. The Indian wicketkeeper/batter was playing a Test for the first time since the 2022 car accident. He scored 39 runs which included 6 fours. Jaiswal himself scored 56 runs and was dismissed by the new pace bowler Nahid Rana. Spinner Mehdi Hasan dismissed KL Rahul for 16 runs.
