Bhishmaraj Dahal, who came to Japan for fencing training, has been sent back by the immigration department there. He reached Nagoya, Japan during his personal preparation for the 2026 Asian Games. However, Bhishmaraj said that he was turned away by immigration for lack of sufficient documents.

He was interrogated by immigration upon arrival at Nagoya airport. At that time, Bhishmaraj said that the immigration made inquiries over the phone with Care Fencing Academy where he was going to train and Bhuvan Humagai who sponsored him.

Bhishmaraj played in the World Fencing Championship in Cairo, Egypt two years ago. He won the bronze medal in the EP category in the sixth national fencing championship organized by the Nepal Fencing Association in June and the ninth national games held in Pokhara two years ago.

Nagoya immigration said that if you are a player of this level, this letter written by the association will not allow you to enter Japan. I was stopped from entering Japan because I was a player with so much potential, because only these documents are not enough,'' he said, having returned to Nepal after realizing that the Nepal Fencing Association did not facilitate the documents. He was held under immigration surveillance for nearly 24 hours. Even though arrangements were made to stay and sleep inside the airport, food was not provided. Bhishmaraj, who was returned by immigration, arrived in Kathmandu on Monday night.

Humagai, who sponsored him, said that this is a very rare case of not being able to enter Japan even with a visa. He had to pay a fee of 145,000 for training for three months. He took about 2 lakh rupees with him for personal expenses and going on his own initiative. But Bhishma claims that the amount was returned by the immigration because it was not enough and there were no strong documents.

He went to Japan with personal initiative and money. Fencing Association, Nepal Olympic Committee and National Sports Council had written to him for visa facilitation. However, Bhishma complained that he was deprived of training in Japan because he did not write a letter about the expenses incurred while coming to Japan and staying there.

He has been playing fencing for 3 years. Before that he used to play taekwondo. He was forced to change the game due to a ligament injury. After not seeing the possibility of returning to Taekwondo, he could not give up his passion and started fencing. During his 13 years of playing, he became the fourth dan in taekwondo.

He had been consulting with Sunil Shrestha, President of the Fencing Association, and Sujan Shrestha, General Secretary, for the last one and a half years about going to Japan for training. He says that he has been proceeding with the paper process since 8 months ago. When contacting the president and general secretary about this matter, they could not be contacted as they were abroad.

He was scheduled to be trained by Nisiya Tomonoshin in Nagoya. He says that he does not understand why the union is trying to marginalize him now. "Training in Japan is not all, my goal is to go and train in different countries before the 2026 Asian Games. I will also look for sponsors for that," Bhishmaraj claims that the association should create an environment of trust accordingly.
