Former Italian football striker Salvatore 'Toto' Silacchi has passed away. According to the Italian media, Silacci, who was suffering from colon cancer, died on Wednesday at Parlemo Hospital.
The 59-year-old Silachi was affiliated with clubs including Juventus. Those clubs have issued a condolence statement on his death.
In the 1990 World Cup, he became the top scorer of the tournament. He scored 6 goals in that World Cup held in Italy and Italy made it to the semi-finals. After that achievement, he became the hero of Italian football.
The Italian Football Association has announced that a minute's silence will be held in honor of Silacci in all matches this weekend. Silacci played 16 times for Italy and scored one more goal for his country.
