Armand Duplantis of Sweden broke his own world record and won the gold medal in pole vault at the Paris Olympics on Monday. He cleared a distance of 6.25 meters in a competition at the Stade de France.

His performance was appreciated by 69,000 spectators. Duplatins improved their performance by one centimeter. Earlier, he cleared 6.24m at the Diamond League meet in April.

He has also defended the gold he won at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. His performance is not a surprise to many, as he has dominated the world pole vault in recent times. He learned pole vaulting from his American father, who was also a coach in his own backyard. This time the gold is the first in a big competition in front of huge audience. After the win, he said, "I was very emotional. Today's performance was special, because every competition has its own importance.'

He started playing pole vault at the age of four. He added, "From a young age, I have imagined winning gold in the Olympics. When such an idea is fulfilled, you will be happy. The experience of winning gold in the Olympics will be even more special.' He just turned 24. So this record is expected to improve further. America's Sam Kendricks, who was behind him, won the silver medal. He cleared only 5.95 meters. It is 30 cm less than Duplatins. He is also a three-time European champion.
