The United States overtook China for the first time on the ninth day of the medal table for the Paris Olympics 2024 and climbed to the top spot on Sunday. America has 19 gold, 26 silver and 26 bronze.
China is in second place with 19 gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze. Host France has 12 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze. Then there are Australia, UK and South Korea.
America's Noah Leys has won gold in the men's 100 meter race, which is considered the most prestigious of the Olympics. He beat Jamaica's Kiesen Thomson to second place in dramatic fashion by a fraction of five thousandths of a second.
Leys completed the race in 9.79 seconds. At the same time, Thomson, who is making his Olympic debut, also completed the race.
