Novak Djokovic won the tennis singles gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday, defeating Carlos Alcarez at Roland Garros. With this, Djokovic's dream of winning the Olympic gold has been fulfilled. After this victory, he has avenged his defeat in the final of last Wimbledon.
A record 24 Grand Slam winners, Djokovic's success list was not limited to Olympic gold. He is also the oldest player in Olympic tennis history to win gold. Djokovic achieved this success at the age of 37. After losing at Wimbledon three weeks ago, this time Djokovic won 7-6 (7/3) and 7-6 (7/2).
Djokovic has written his name in the rare list of tennis players who have won all four Grand Slam tournaments as well as Olympic gold. Earlier such success was achieved only by Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams.
Djokovic won both sets in tiebreakers to give Serbia an emotional gold medal. Alcarez is also the youngest player to reach an Olympic men's singles final. He is 21 years old. He also won the last French Open along with Wimbledon. This time he stopped at the silver medal for Spain.
