After continuous rains, the flow of water in Mahakali river has increased. Four-wheeler vehicles have been banned on the Sharda Barrage bridge since Friday morning due to the increase in water flow.

According to Police Inspector Ishwar Thapa of District Police Office Kanchanpur, the flow of water in Mahakali river has reached 171 thousand cusecs. As the bridge of Sharda barrage is dilapidated, the movement of large vehicles will be stopped as soon as the water flow exceeds 1 lakh cusecs.

The water level in other rivers of the district has also crossed the danger level due to rain. Police Inspector Thapa said that there is a risk of floods crossing the danger level and entering the slums in the Jogbuda River as well.

It is estimated that the water level in the river may rise further due to the non-stop rains. Thapa said that the residents of the river coastal area have also been informed to be alert.
