Minister of Home Affairs Ramesh Akhtar has said that the creation of a new law related to the police is a priority of the government. While inaugurating the newly constructed building of Sudurpaschim Province Police Gana Dhangadhi, Kailali and the petrol pump run by the Nepal Police Welfare Fund on Thursday, the Minister of Home Affairs said that the government has prioritized the creation of new laws related to crime and the creation of new laws related to Nepal Police, Armed Police etc.

He said, 'The law related to Nepal Police since 2012 is working now. It has been amended many times. We have taken a decision from the Ministry of Home Affairs to make it a new law. It has been sent to the Ministry of Finance for approval.'

Mentioning that some things in the police are done through laws and regulations, the Home Minister said that it is necessary to make a new police law because the Supreme Court has decided that some things in the regulations should be kept in the law.

He said, 'due to the fact that law-making could not go ahead, there is now a situation where there is some confusion, uncertainty and dilemma in the police. As the situation has been created that cases are going to the court, we will make a new law soon.'

Mentioning that the law of Nepal Police has been decided and sent, he said that he is trying to bring some new important issues in that law. Saying that he has proposed to reconsider about thirty years of service, the Home Minister said that he has proposed to give voluntary retirement at 16 and 18 years, especially to police jawans and police constables.

The Home Minister said that within the first 100 days of the government's tenure, it is a priority to present to the Federal Parliament to create a new law related to the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force.
