Having spent many years in the Pashupati region, it is sad to remember the past and see the current situation. Vagmati is a sacred river for Hindus. However, after the cremation of the body at Pashupati Aryaghat during the death rites, the remaining ashes and wood-coal are thrown into this river. Is this a matter of pride for Hindu followers? Of course not.

It is unforgivable to bury the cremated ashes in such dirty water. Instead, arrangements would have been made to bury such ashes under the soil in a clean place near Bagmati. Unless sewage treatment plants are added to the affected areas, Wagmati will not be clean. There should be a strict legal provision for those who mix sewage.

From Pashupati Aryaghat to the lower dam, even if clean water was made to flow from army/police water tankers, the water here would look somewhat clean!
