Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has said that the guidelines will be amended soon so that the citizenship issue is resolved. Speaking at the hearing program of victims of citizenship related complaints held in Kathmandu on Saturday, the Home Minister said that many problems related to citizenship have arisen due to the guidelines and should be revised.
He said that he is clear about the fact that no one should be left out to get citizenship because of the guidelines. He said that the guidelines will be amended based on the existing constitutional and legal provisions and the provisions of the regulations and the decision given by the Supreme Court in that regard.
He said, "The guidelines should be revised by making them relevant to the provisions of the Constitution of Nepal, the provisions of the Citizenship Act of Nepal, and the provisions of the Citizenship Regulations, and including the latest decisions made by the respected Supreme Court." This is not something that I can solve within 24 hours. But everyone's initiative should bring it to a conclusion. I have made it clear again - there is a problem with the directory. The government will carry forward the work of reviewing, revising and timely amending the guidelines.' On the
side, the victims complained that they could not get citizenship even though the Supreme Court's decision was in their favor.
