According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government is making continuous efforts to free 5 Nepalis who were captured by the Ukrainian army while fighting the war illegally in the Russian army. Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Amrit Kumar Rai informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing homework with the Ukrainian side through its mechanisms to release them. Ukraine has gathered the Nepalis who were captured from different places during the war in one place.
On Friday, Ukraine announced the same thing to 8 citizens of other countries working in the Russian army. Ukraine has also publicly requested the countries of the Global South to stop their citizens from joining the Russian army in the war with Ukraine.
Ukrainian government 'Treatment of Prisoners of War' Headquarters coordinator Petro Yatsenko has released a list of citizens including 5 citizens from Nepal and one each from Cuba, Somalia and Sierra Leone. At a press conference in the capital city of Kiev, he mentioned that there is a high possibility that Russia will recruit some citizens of low-income countries and use them as weapons in war.

Ukraine made a statement by keeping 5 people from Nepal at the same place . Vivek Khatri of Bardia, Siddharth Dhakal of Kavre, Vikas Rai of Morang, Prateik Pun of Rolpa and Ishwar Lamichhane of Gorkha, who joined the Russian army, have been captured by the Ukrainian army during the war.

Ukraine has talked with Nepalis and made them promise to go to Russia after they are released from Ukraine and cancel the military agreement and return to Nepal. Ukraine has not given information about when the prisoners will be released. For a long time, Nepal had taken diplomatic steps to release its citizens who were under Ukrainian occupation through the Nepali Embassy in Germany.
Only after Nepal's continuous efforts, Ukraine agreed to hold diplomatic dialogue with Nepal. Diplomatic dialogue is now going on between Nepal and Ukraine. Nepali ambassador to Germany Ramkaji Khadka and Ukrainian ambassador are talking. Earlier, Ukraine had released videos of captured Nepalis at different times.
19 Nepalis who joined the Russian army to fight the Russia-Ukraine war have died. So far, Nepal has refused to answer about how many Nepalis have been recruited into the Russian army, even after repeatedly asking Russia.
