This year's national poet Madhav Prasad Ghimire award will be given to senior lyricist Kiran Kharel. The prize, which is given every year in memory of the national poet himself, Madhav Prasad Ghimire, is worth one lakh rupees and a certificate of appreciation.
On the occasion of the national poet's birth anniversary, there is a program to present the award by President Ramchandra Poudel in a special ceremony to be held at President Niwas Sheetalniwas on October 7. Earlier, the award was given to senior Prada critic Vasudev Tripathi.
The president of the foundation, Vijayraj Neupane, informed that the award was established every year in different genres of literature from the fund established by the national poet's family at the Marsyangdi Literary Foundation.
The award selection committee formed under the coordination of senior songwriter Prada Krishnahari Baral decided to award Kharel Award to senior songwriter in the field of music this year . 88-year-old Kharel, who has been active in the field of songwriting and singing since 2014, is currently suffering from dystenia.
