Australia sets the number of students allowed to enroll in universities

Education Minister Jason Clare has stated that quotas have been set on the number of international students in order to manage higher education as well as address employment and housing issues. Clare has already announced that the number of international students will be limited to 270,000 for next year.

According to that, the government has set the number of international students that every university can take admission in 2025 . Educational institutions, including universities, have expressed displeasure with Minister of Education Clare's decision.

It is seen that the quota system will have a direct impact on international students including Nepalis . Among the universities with less number of students, there are some universities that are preferred by Nepali students. According to the data of the Department of Education, some universities have significantly lost the number of students compared to the number of admissions in previous years, while some have gained more.

With the imposition of quotas on the number of students coming to study in Australia, experts have expressed concern saying that the educational institutions here will suffer financial loss and a large number of jobs will be lost. .

The Australian National University (ANU), one of the best in the world, has lost about 15 percent of its student population. Similarly, the University of New South Wales has lost 14 percent of its student population. It is said that ANU will be able to enroll 3,400 students in total next year, while the University of New South Wales will be able to enroll 9,500 students .

University of Sydney will be able to enroll 11 thousand 900 students among the allocated quotas. This is 7 percent less than last year's enrollment of the university . Likewise, The University of New England and the University of Notre Dame have received the lowest number of students at the rate of 700.

Federation University Australia will be able to enroll 1100 students . This is about 52 percent less than last year's admissions . Murdoch University has seen a 34 percent drop in student numbers compared to last year . This university has a total of 3,500 students.

Some universities have received more students than last year in the quota given by the government. Most Charles Stuart University has received 1,000 quota for 2025 after enrolling 162 students last year . University of Sunshine Coast, University of Tasmania, University of Notre Dame, University of Adelaide, Southern Cross University, Flinders University and others have increased compared to last year.
