  • Due to the lack of ships, the flights to international destinations are being canceled suddenly, hundreds of passengers are not able to reach their destination, and there is a concern that Nepal will become discredited.

Executive Chairman Yuvraj Adhikari has been asked for three explanations in one week on the charge of bankrupting Nepal Airlines Corporation by grounding the aircraft in a hurry and incurring a loss of crores of rupees. Two clarifications were asked by Tourism Minister Badri Pandey and one by the board of directors of the corporation.

Tourism State Minister Arun Choudhary said that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has summoned the presiding officer on Wednesday after the incident of cancellation of flights to international destinations by the corporation due to lack of ships, hundreds of passengers who were merging with some destination and were not able to reach their destination became infamous. But the officer did not come to the meeting without informing.

"Not the minister, the secretary, the corporation chairman told the government," said Minister Choudhary tell

"Yuvraj Adhikari has been absent from the meeting without being informed, so it has been decided to ask for an explanation," Lamichhane, who is also the joint secretary, said, "Due to his absence, the work done in the corporation could not be reviewed. Since he did not come to the meeting several times, it was decided to ask for a second explanation on behalf of the ministry. The board of directors of Nepal Air Service Corporation has also asked the executive chairman of the corporation for an explanation.

The committee asked executive chairman Yuvraj Adhikari for an explanation on August 13 after the national flag carrier Nepal Air Service Corporation had to bear a daily loss of around 4 crores due to the non-flying of two wide-body aircraft out of four jets.

According to a source in the president's secretariat, the board of directors has asked for an explanation on issues including the delay in sending both widebody aircraft for regular detailed maintenance (C-check) in the face of the approaching festival. "The explanation asked by the board of directors of the corporation has arrived at our (executive chairman's) office," the source told Kantipur.

The executive chairman officer has been instructed to present and sign the detailed answer to the explanation registered in the board of directors on August 13. Before Badri Pandey became the tourism minister, the officer has worked with Prem Ale, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Sudan Kirati and Hit Bahadur Tamang. It is said that the relations between the officials and all the ministers are bitter.

Officials in the Ministry of Tourism have been asked for an explanation at least 21 times during the tenure of all the five ministers, according to an administration source. First of all, when the former minister came in May 079, the officer was dismissed by the then Council of Ministers for not giving a satisfactory answer when asked for an explanation. He has been leading the corporation by the Supreme Court's short-term order. The case has been moved.

The officer who retired after working for 34 years at the age of 58 was given the leadership of the corporation on the recommendation of CPN Samajwadi leader Jhalnath Khanal. The then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba appointed the officer in 078 Kartik for 4 years. After the arrival of the officer, the financial liability of the corporation, which has a debt burden of 45 billion, has reached 53 billion rupees. A board member said that the corporation's board of directors has asked for an explanation.

The officer sent widebody Annapurna to Naples on June 9. The MRO agent company kept the plane in the parking lot for 37 days saying that the payment was not made. The member says that the loss of daily business of around 2 crores due to the loss of daily business by the aircraft, apart from additional expenses such as parking fee, insurance, etc., was incurred by the aircraft during its stay there for 37 days.

Italy's agent company ATITech has mentioned in the contract that the widebody ship will be repaired and sent within 30 days. But even after two and a half months, the repair of the ship has not been completed.

The official along with the board member of the corporation Kishore Pradhan and director Tankanidhi Dahal met the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Baluwatar on the night of July 7 and said that the ship sent to Italy will arrive in Nepal on July 30. But stating that the ship will not come to Nepal until August 24, the marketing department of the corporation has issued a circular to all departments on Wednesday that the two flights scheduled for Narita in Japan have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, another widebody has also been sent to Naples for repairs on August 12. An engineer of the corporation said that it has not been decided when it will be returned to Nepal as the repair of that ship has not yet started. After showing extreme negligence in all these incidents, Tourism Minister Pandey asked for an explanation on 11 points on August 12. The deadline for the letter, which asked the ministry to respond within a week, expired on Tuesday.
