Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari has said that the government will pay the amount of milk and sugarcane farmers before Dussein. In a meeting with journalists at the ministry on Sunday, the minister said that preparations are being made to pay the amount of milk due to the farmers for 11 months within a month.
The ministerial officer directed the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) to pay the said amount. He said that there is a plan to provide 600 million rupees. The minister said that 1 billion 36 million rupees are due to be paid to the dairy farmers and the government is also planning a long-term solution for the payment of the dairy farmers. He said that the problem of the government buying milk on loan from the farmers and not giving money to the farmers by selling it in cash will be solved.
The minister said that the amount of 1.3 billion is yet to be provided to the sugarcane farmers and the ministry has already started working to provide this amount before Dasain . He said, "The government has to pay 1 billion 36 million rupees to the farmers". The said amount will be paid within this month or before Dashani . This arrears due for the past 11 months cannot remain unpaid. The government has also thought about a long-term solution for the payment of dairy farmers. The problem of buying milk on credit from farmers, but not giving money to the farmers who sell it in cash, should end forever. For that, the ministry is doing homework.'
The ministerial officer also said that the ministry is aware of the suffering of the sugarcane farmers. "An amount of 1 billion 30 million remains to be provided to the sugarcane farmers. I am in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture . I have to take charge. I will take initiatives to solve this problem by coordinating with the Ministry of Forests, Land Reforms, Industry, Finance, Prime Minister's Office and Energy.'
He said that after taking over the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, there is no room for doing wrong and he will show it by improving the agricultural sector.
