50 campaigners working to make the festival environment-friendly

On Friday, 50 campaigners pledged to work on environmental justice during a program organized jointly by the Foundation and the Ministry of Forests and Environment in Kathmandu.

The activists have signed a collective commitment letter on five different points to reduce carbon emissions, mentioning that it will be done nationwide to reduce the risk of climate change. These include reducing waste, minimizing the use of plastic, reusing goods, and raising public awareness to protect the environment. Prajita Karki, co-president of

Ranju Darshana, president of Viveksheel Szaha, said that due to the development done by developed countries and Western countries during the industrial revolution, countries like Nepal are now facing the problem of climate change. Speaking at the campaign announcement program, actress Rekha Thapa stressed on the need to be aware to control the risk of climate change for the protection of nature. She said, ``If we should save nature, we should move forward with the feeling that we should save our mother. This program should be taken far and wide.'

Similarly, Saru Shrestha Joshi, an environmental rights activist, said that it should be made environment-friendly by reducing the waste expenditure during the festival and encouraging the reuse of old clothes.

Another activist Bhumika Shrestha expressed her happiness that sexual and gender minority communities have participated in the program related to climate change. Similarly, Yamuna Ghale and Krishna Karki opined that there is a need to make the climate and environment-friendly campaign stronger and more effective. In the

program, Helambu rural municipality chairman Nima Galzen Sherpa mentioned that there is a need to go to the implementation level to reduce the risk of climate change and not just talk, and said that her rural municipality has discouraged the use of plastic.

Shraddha Shrestha, director of Nepal Tourism Board, said that climate change has affected Nepal's tourism sector the most, it has affected mountain tourism, mountain climbing and hiking, and emphasized that everyone should be proactive in reducing its risks.
