Former leader of the Australian Labor Party and senior minister of the current government, Bill Shorton, has announced his retirement from politics. Sarton is currently handling the Ministry of National Disability Insurance Scheme, a national agency that works for the disabled.

He has announced that he will retire from all politics with effect from next February. Known as an effective leader in Australian politics, the 57-year-old Sirton emerged in Australian politics as an MP since 2007.

After that, he continuously increased his political career and became the leader of the Australian Labor Party from 2013 to 2019. Sarton, who led the Labor Party for six years, resigned as party leader after losing the election to Scott Morrison of the Liberal Coalition in the 2019 election. Announcing his retirement from a political career of nearly two decades, he said that he is a very lucky person in Australian politics.

Although Sarton was defeated as Labor leader in the then two-phase elections, he contributed to unifying the Labor Party. He has been the Parliamentary Secretary and has held the responsibility of various ministries .

He has announced his complete retirement from politics by holding a press conference on Thursday. In a press conference attended by Prime Minister Anthony Albanizi, Prime Minister Albanizi praised Sartan and insisted that he has not worked as hard as anyone as a leader. Prime Minister Albanizi said Sartan played an important role in bringing the Labor Party policies and programs and strengthening the party.

Despite retiring from politics, he will remain as a senior minister of the Albaniji government until February next year. In a press conference, he informed that after retiring from politics, he took responsibility as the Vice-Chancellor of Canberra University in the capital.

He said that he is excited about the new opportunity and said that he will make good use of all the knowledge he has learned from politics. As he announced his retirement from politics, leaders including the leader of the opposition Liberal Party, Peter Dutton, congratulated and wished him well.

In Australian politics, it is common to retire after being active in politics for some time. Former Prime Ministers Scott Morrison, Malcolm Turnbull, Tony Abbott, Julia Gillard, as well as recently West Australian Premier Mark McGowan and dozens of other leaders have retired from active politics. Because politics in Australia is considered as a service rather than a job, after a certain age politicians retire from politics and lead a family, social and business life.
