The Supreme Court of India has formed a 10-member task force to create a national protocol to ensure the safety and convenience of doctors.

During the hearing of the case, which was taken as 'so moto' (self-cognizance) by the court, the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that the state government should also be serious to prevent such an incident from happening again. "As much as women are becoming active at work...the country cannot wait for another rape to improve everything at the ground level," the bench said.

Two weeks ago, after the rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata, West Bengal, during the hearing of the case, the court has also asked the protesting doctors to trust the Supreme Court and return to work.

A 31-year-old female doctor who went to rest after 36 hours of duty at the RG Kar College of Medical College Hospital in Kolkata was murdered on April 9 after being raped. After the incident, the court ruled that the delay in registering the FIR and the hasty appointment of the principal of the medical college in West Bengal Government and RG Kar hospital officials have been questioned.

The Supreme Court has also demanded an investigation report of the incident from the CBI. Similarly, it has also demanded detailed information from the West Bengal government regarding the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital. The former principal of the college who resigned two days after the

incident. Sandeep Ghosh was appointed at Kolkata National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCA). But soon after that the Calcutta High Court ordered him to go on long leave . The next hearing of the case is scheduled for August 22.
