A war monitoring group said on Friday that 11 civilians were killed in an eastern village controlled by the Kurdish forces in Syria as a result of a bomb explosion carried out by a group of supporters of the Syrian government and close to Iran.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 11 people, including six children, were killed in the attack in Dahla, Deir Ezzor province. According to the

group, the fighting began on Wednesday after pro-Iranian fighters attacked Kurdish-held areas.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, close to the Kurds, have also confirmed that 11 civilians, including mostly women and children, were killed in the fighting.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) led an offensive in Syria in 2019 that defeated the self-proclaimed Islamic State of the Islamic State jihadist group.

Iraq's border region of Deir Ezzor province is divided by the Euphrates River, home to dozens of local tribes.

Iran has provided military support to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces in the civil war for more than a decade.

There are currently about 900 US troops in Syria as part of the anti-jihadist coalition.

The Syrian civil war, which began in 2011 when anti-government protests began, has killed more than 500,000 people and displaced millions.
