In Rukum West, carpenters have been trained to build earthquake resistant houses. With the financial support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a 7-day training has been organized from Monday at the district headquarters, Khalanga, under the auspices of the Urban Development and Building Department.

Devendradev Khanal, engineer of the department, said that 30 carpenters, including 2 women, have been trained from all 6 municipalities of the district. "There is a need for earthquake-resistant houses, especially in places damaged by the earthquake on November 17th," he said Madhav Katuwal, another engineer and trainer who was made to participate based on the recommendations of the municipality, informed. According to Engineer Katwal, this is the first time that this kind of building construction training has been organized by government agencies after the earthquake. "After receiving training from here, the municipality will prepare a roster of their names and by mobilizing them, the construction work will proceed," he said.

Tilak Devkota of Athaviskot Municipality-9 expressed his happiness that even though they were working in a normal way in the village, they were able to receive this kind of training. He says that after leaving here, it will be practically understood how to make a safe and strong house at a low cost.
