Illegal tobacco and Indian cigarettes worth Rs 860,000 hidden inside the shutters of a house in Bhairahawa were seized by the Bhairahawa Customs Office on Monday morning.
According to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, 280 kg of powder tobacco, 101 packets of classic Indian cigarettes and a total of 1085 packets of ready-to-eat tobacco were recovered from a house at Siddharth Nagar Napa-9 Kathautia behind Buddhachowk in Bhairahawa.
Narad Gautam, the head of Bhairahawa Customs Office, said that the place was raided with the help of the Armed Police Force on Saturday morning after receiving information that illegal goods imported from India were kept there.
He said that the value of all the recovered goods was more than 860 thousand rupees. The person who kept the goods is absconding.
"During the questioning, the housekeeper said that the shutter was rented to a person whose full identity was not opened," Customs chief Gautam said, "The search and investigation of the absconding person is continuing."
