  • 2,000 rupees from the motorcycle river

Residents of three wards of Raksirang Rural Municipality have been suffering during the rainy season due to non-construction of a concrete bridge over the Lothar River. Due to the lack of a bridge on the Lothar River between Rapti Municipality-11 of Chitwan and Raksirang Rural Municipality-6 Kharkhande of Makwanpur, there is a problem in the movement of vehicles during the rainy season.

Due to the lack of bridges, the movement of vehicles has been stopped for the past two months. Dinesh Chepang of Raksirang Rural Municipality-6 Silinge, who now has to cross the river by carrying a motorcycle, said, 'When the river is low, it is done to cross the river by carrying a motorcycle, the youths who ride a motorcycle charge up to 2 thousand rupees.' Vehicles cannot come and go from here when they are parked. Residents of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th wards of Raksirang Rural Municipality are forced to cross this river. Materials for development in that area or food, must be transported across this river. Not only that, agricultural materials produced in the village must also be transported across this river. But after the rainy season, vehicles cannot operate due to Lothar River.

Vehicles pass through Bhandara in Chitwan to Silinge, Damrang, Kharkhande, Siladhuni and other settlements, but due to the Lothar river, the vehicles are stopped after the rainy season. Since the suspension bridge was built in that area 2 years ago, the students of Kharkhande area of Raksirang rural municipality do not have that much problem to go to school. Students from lower parts of Kharkhande and Silinge come to study in Mavi located in Thalaktar, Rapti Municipality-11. Until the suspension bridge was built, their studies were being affected by not being able to cross the Lothar River during the rainy season. "If the concrete bridge is not built, there is also a problem to bring patients in the ambulance for treatment during the rainy season," said Singh Bahadur Chepang, the former chairman of Raksirang Rural Municipality.

The main problem of the residents of the four wards, where most of the Chepang community resides, is the Lothar river bridge. Rajkumar Malla, chairman of the rural municipality, said that the Raksirang rural municipality has been demanding the provincial and federal governments to build a concrete bridge in that area, but they have not been heard. "We don't have the budget to build such a big concrete bridge," he said, "but, until the bridge is built on the Lothar River, the villagers will not be left with problems during the rainy season."
