Thousands of girls are worshiped together in Banepa of Kavre. In the context of Krishna Janmashtami, as in previous years, this year too, the Sanatan Kanya Puja Management Committee has performed the puja of Kanya in Banepa.
Secretary of the committee Surkrishna Vaidya said that about 7500 girls were worshiped in Kanya Puja. According to him, apart from worshiping the girls, the committee provides swari and puri as offerings to them, while other people worshiped the girls by giving them money, chokada, cashews, chocolate, biscuits, noodles, fruits and other foods.
The secretary of the committee Vaidya said that materials worth about 400 rupees per girl have been provided for the girl-puja. According to him, apart from the donor's support, the committee has been paying other expenses. There is a public belief that worshiping girls will bring them happiness, peace, prosperity and health.
In addition, there is a tradition of worshiping a girl every year with the belief that it will be good for the worshiper as well. He said that there is about 122 years of complete history of worshiping girls here.
