1 person died when a passenger bus fell from the Nijgadh Municipality-8 Unasi Bridge in Bara under the East-West Mahendra Highway on Sunday midnight. 43 passengers on the bus were injured.
6 people were seriously injured. They are being treated at Medicity Hospital in Birganj. As he could not be treated at Nijgarh Community Hospital, he was sent there for further treatment.
45-year-old Chetan Rai Yadav of Dang Deukhuri Gatwa Rural Municipality-5 died at the Bayodha Hospital when the bus No. 8K 1164 was going from Biratnagar to Dang and fell 10 meters from the bridge.
The owner, driver and co-driver of the bus carrying 43 passengers were injured. The driver's leg is broken. The bus driver, whose name has not been released, is being treated in an unconscious state.
He said that others are being treated at Nijgadh Community Hospital after suffering minor injuries.
According to him, the accident happened when the belt of the fast-moving bus broke and the bus went out of control and fell down 10 meters from the bridge. He said that further investigation is going on regarding the
incident. The iron fence of the bridge was also damaged when the bus fell.
