Congestion of containers at Sirsia dry port has increased due to importers not loading containers on time and not being able to return empty containers. Currently, there are 2,800 containers in the port complex, 1,650 freighters and 1,150 empty containers.

Dhan Bahadur Baruwal, head of the customs office at the port, said that the congestion of containers in the port premises is increasing due to the tendency of importers not to take time and return empty containers to Indian ports on time.

"The increasing number of empty containers has become a matter of concern," he said.

Atul Sharma, the head of administration of Pristine Valley, insisted that since the movement of containers is as normal, it cannot be said that empty containers have been piled up. At present, Konkar, Pristine, DP World, Hind Terminals, Box Trans and other companies bring rail racks from Kolkata, Haldia and Visakhapatnam ports in India.

When 5 companies take turns to bring rail racks He said that nearly 700 empty containers are regularly waiting for their turn to return to the port premises. He said that since one rack can load 90 empty containers at a time, many containers cannot go back at the same time.

As some importers tend not to load their cargo containers on time, Sharma says that such containers also increase congestion at the port. The parking fee must be paid even if the garland container is kept in the port premises.

The parking fee for a container is 300 rupees per day. But the importers keep their containers at the port even after paying the parking fee and pass the container inspection as required. Sharma says that if the container is locked in the yard, even if an importer wants to load his container, it is very difficult to get his container out of the lock.

He said that time will be wasted and the handling cost of the container will also increase. He said that after the yard is full, it will be able to manage the new containers that arrive daily. The capacity of this port is only 1,500 containers. He said that it is difficult to manage the yard in such a situation.
