The natural flow area of Dughamati river of historical and religious importance will be identified and boundaries will be determined and excavated.
The work will be done for 29 km from the point of origin to the Indian border. The high-level meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh. Based on the measurement in 2024/026, it has been decided to determine the boundary of Dughamati river and to make necessary technical preparations for that work. Chief Minister Singh said that the
meeting will be informed about the encroachment issues after the boundary of the Dugdhamati river is decided and based on that, it has been decided to move forward the work of clearing the river's flow area at a fast pace.
Similarly, to get information about the encroachment of the flow area of Dughamati river, Chief Minister Singh has observed from the source of Dughamati located in Kshireshwar Municipality-5 of Dhanusha to Baniniyan located in Ward No. 3 of Laxminiyan Rural Municipality.
The flow area of the river is encroached from Lakshminiyan-3 to the north source of Baniniyan. Water flows under the fields in that area. A team led by Chief Minister Singh, including government officials, has observed the river along with Dughamati Pond to the southern part of Baniyan.
Dudhamati river is considered a sacred river mentioned in religious and mythological texts. On the day of Sripanchami, a big fair is held at the source of the river.
