The Bhimsen Jatra of the Newar community of Birganj was completed peacefully on Tuesday night. DSP Deepak Bharti, Spokesperson of the District Police Office said that there was no untoward incident during the Jatra and it was completed peacefully.

In view of possible clashes like in the past, around 250 Nepal Police and around 50 armed police were deployed in plain clothes.

"Security personnel were deployed in the streets of the city," DSP Bharti said, "We also prioritized information gathering, and because of that, there were no untoward incidents throughout the Jatra period."

Even decades ago, as soon as the name of Bhimsen Jatra was heard, a possible clash between the two groups was expected. For the last few years, the Bhimsen Jatra here has started to be completed peacefully. There have been no incidents of clashes like in the past, injuries to the participants of Jatra and the breaking of windows of local houses or commercial establishments. According to the

tradition, every year on the day of Jatra, Jatra leaves from Virtamai Temple with a dola. The Jatra starts from the main road through the Gahwamai temple and after going around the city again reaches Virtamai temple.

In the past when Jatra reached Gahwa, there Every year there would be clashes between the youth groups of Virta and Gahwa when the youth tried to take away the dola. In addition to the injuries of the participants of the Jatra, during the clashes and stone pelting, the windows of common people's houses and commercial establishments and other public properties were also vandalized. Apart from the Newar community, the non-Newar community is also present in the

jatra. Although the Newar community of other cities of the country and especially the cities of Tarai rarely observe this Jatra, the Newar community of Birganj has preserved the ancient Jatra tradition by celebrating it properly, says Sunder Shrestha, Treasurer of Birganj.

Since it is customary for the participants to chant the slogan 'Leo Leo, Payo Payo' in the Jatra, many refer to this Jatra as 'Leo Leo, Payo Payo' Jatra. It is customary for the Newar community to worship Bhimsen as a total deity. There is a religious belief that performing Jatra will bring economic prosperity, prosperity, good health and health.
