The 16th International Vulture Awareness Day has been celebrated in Sunsari to raise public awareness about the vulture, which has been dubbed as the 'Kuchikar of nature'.

Students of various schools and locals were trained on vulture conservation in a program organized by Koshi Tappu Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Sanctuary.

Rajkumar Singh, coordinator of Koshi Tappu Learning Ground, said that the program was organized by gathering students from different schools because it seems effective to raise awareness through students for the protection of vultures, which are disappearing recently.

Singh informed that 7 different species of vultures are found only in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Ramesh Kumar Yadav, the chief conservation officer of Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve, said that the number of vultures has decreased recently due to the erosion of the border and the destruction of trees like Agla Simal, Sakhuwa, where vultures live. The ward president of Koshi Rural Municipality-3 Suleiman Mansuri said that the local level should be active to protect the endangered vulture.
