Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandrakuver Khapung, Chief of Koshi Province Police Office, has said that the problem of drug addiction in Koshi Province is in an alarming state.

Speaking at an awareness raising program against drug addiction organized on Saturday in Shivasatakshi Municipality-1 of Jhapa, Khapung said that the problem of drugs in the border districts of Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Ilam and others is becoming dire.

He expressed his concern that despite the fact that dozens of drug users and dealers are arrested every day in those districts, the problem has become worse. He added, "It is not necessary to hide the incident, but to find a way to improve it."

He said that the sports sector will play an important role in building an addiction-free society and pointed out the need for the local government to increase investment in the youth's personality development and sports sector.

Meghahang Thopra (Roshan), mayor of Shivasatakshi municipality, said that sports are an effective way to keep the youth away from drug addiction and said that in the future, initiatives will be taken to take the youth to a positive path by allocating the budget in the sports sector.
