The meeting of the Constitutional Council is being held at the Prime Minister's residence, Baluwatar. The Council meeting is likely to recommend the appointment of the vacant Chief Justice.

All the members of the Constitutional Council are present in the meeting. Chief Justice Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Speaker of the National Assembly Narayan Dahal, Leader of the main opposition party Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Ranamar are participating in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Chief Justice Shrestha is retiring from October 19 due to his age limit of 65 years. The Judicial Council has sent the names of 8 senior judges to the Council for the appointment of the Chief Justice. According to the ranking, the names of judges Prakashman Singh Raut, Nahkul Subedi, Sapna Pradhan Malla, Prakash Kumar Dhungana, Kumar Regmi, Hariprasad Phuyal, Manoj Sharma and Kumar Chudal have reached the council.
