Oman's Foreign Minister Saeed Badr bin Hamad bin Hamud Balsusaidi is coming down to Kathmandu on Monday evening for a two-day official visit. After the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a high-ranking visit from Oman is about to take place for the first time.

Foreign Minister Balsusaidi, who is coming to Nepal on the invitation of Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba, will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Rana on Tuesday morning.

After that, he will return after a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and President Ramchandra Paudel. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the visit of Foreign Minister Balsusaidi, there will be discussions to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations were established between Nepal and Oman on January 21, 1977. On September 1, 2013, Nepal opened an embassy in Oman, an important country in West Asia. After that, Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal was sent as the first ambassador by promoting her to the level of ambassador.

Both countries are members of the United Nations and are also in the Non-Aligned Movement (name). The two countries are side by side in the G-77 group and other international forums.

Oman is an important country in West Asia for foreign employment of Nepalis. There are about 24,000 Nepali workers in Oman now.

Nepal's former ambassador to Oman Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal said that Oman is an important friend of Nepal in West Asia. She gave importance to Nepal from Oman and mentioned that for the first time a foreign minister level visit is coming and Nepal should be able to make good use of it . She said, "Nepal can cooperate with Oman on many things." Nepal can benefit from cooperation in green energy and fertilizers. Also, Oman has expressed its desire to invest in the energy sector of Nepal.

Former Ambassador Parajuli said that since Oman has good relations with all the countries in West Asia including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Nepal can even ask for assistance if needed.

Being an important member of the GCC, she said that it will be easy for Nepal to get benefits through the organization.

Although the first high-level visit is about to take place from Oman, there have already been four important visits from Nepal. King Birendra Shah and Queen Aishwarya in 1986, Foreign Minister Randhir Subba in 1985, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Bhim Rawal in 2017 (personal visit) and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deubad in 2017 have made official visits to Oman.
