Nepal Communist Party (UML) leader and member of the National Assembly, Sonam Gelzen Sherpa, has drawn the government's attention to the flood that occurred in Solukhumbu's Thame on Friday. He also demanded that the government should take initiative to shift the settlements of Thame area to other places.

Speaking at a special time in the National Assembly meeting on Sunday, MP Sherpa said, 'Houses have been damaged due to severe floods in Thame of Solukhumbu, one person is missing, the cost of livestock is yet to be paid, electricity and communication sectors have been completely damaged. The government should collect its details as soon as possible and take the initiative to shift the settlement of Thame area to another place.'

Member of Parliament Sherpa praised the government for conducting an on-site study and distributing relief to the victims. He stated that the impact of environmental change has been seen in Nepal recently and expressed the view that the government should think seriously about how to present the issue of environment and climate change on the international stage.

MP Sherpa said that the people could not be informed about the study/research done in Nepal about climate change. "Different organizations are studying the danger of the ponds near Thame, but the government has not received the data," he said. He demanded that the government should keep the facts of all investigations to be done in Nepal.

MP Sherpa emphasized that long-term solutions should be adopted to reduce the risk of flooding in various places in Solukhumbu, saying that the government should arrange separate funds for studies and research in the country. He told that many places in Solukhumbu were closed due to lack of electricity and said that the problem of electricity should be solved immediately.

Member of Parliament Sherpa said, 'Government should take initiative to move the settlements of Thame area to another place and it is necessary to study the risks of the four ponds there and find solutions.' He demands that the government should provide sufficient budget for the Himalayan region in the coming days.
