  • The Nepali team will continue the second phase of rescue

The Indian technical team that came to search for the bus and passengers swept away in the Simaltal landslide is going to return today. Chief District Officer of Chitwan Indradev Yadav has informed that the Indian technicians will be bid farewell today. Technicians of India's 'National Disaster Response Force' (NDRF) came to search for a week with technology.

12 technicians who came with four divers started the search from the previous Sunday . The Nepalese team reached the spot immediately after the accident and started searching. Despite the search by the Indian team, the two buses that drifted in Trishuli have not been found. The Indian team searched with sonar, a device that indicates the size and shape of objects in the water.

The Nepali team also searched with divers and sonar and cameras that can see objects in the water. The search operation was expected to be successful because the three sonars that the Indians had were more sophisticated than the ones used by the Nepalese and the technicians were experienced. "After reviewing the work done by the Indian and our joint team so far, the Indian team will be sent back with a thank you note," said Chief District Officer Yadav.

The Nepali team said that the second phase of the search operation is continuing, he said. "But this search is not as fast and intensive as it was yesterday," Chief District Officer Yadav said. He said that the District Security Committee will hold a meeting today to formalize this plan. It is said that the missing persons whose bodies have been found and identified, and whose bodies have not been found, will be treated as dead according to the government's decision and the relief process will be started.

On Friday, June 28th, around 3:30 am, Ganpati transport bus No. 03-001 B 2495 coming from Kathmandu to Gaur and Angel bus No. 03-006 B 1516 of Bagmati Province going to Kathmandu from Birganj fell in Sinduregaira, North Simaltal, about 23 km east of Narayangadh. They disappeared after falling into Trishuli in a landslide with Ledo.

According to the Chitwan District Administration Office, there were 65 passengers in both buses. Although the bus reached Trishuli, three passengers of the Angel bus saved their lives by swimming themselves. The remaining 62 people and two buses are missing in Trishuli. The search team found 25 dead bodies from the Narayani river bank and Triveni Dam area, about 103 km below the spot. Out of them, only 19 bodies have been confirmed to be passengers of the bus that fell in the landslide.

Among those 19 bodies identified by the family, three are women and 16 are men. Seven Indian citizens in one bus and two in the other nine Indian citizens also disappeared in the river along with the bus. Out of which the bodies of five Indians have been found. The condition of the remaining 43 passengers is unknown except for the three who were safe and the 19 people whose bodies were found. Even the body has not been found since July 4th.

The Indian team's search was focused on the Trishuli River around the place where the bus fell. They searched the bus yesterday Saturday using two powerful magnets of 19 kg and 14 kg. A 19 kg magnet has been lost in Trishuli. The Indian technicians said that the upwelling of the Trishuli river and the high flow hindered the search.
