Jure's Coincidence of Women's Leadership in Foreign Affairs

Congress leader Arju Rana has taken charge of the foreign minister from Monday and the secretary of the said ministry is Seva Lamsal. Rana is the fourth woman to be named foreign minister after Sahana Pradhan, Sujata Koirala and Vimala Paudel Rai in the diplomatic history of Nepal.

Secretary Lamsal is the first secretary of the ministry. Lamsal, who was the former ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, was promoted to secretary by the government last November.

"It can be considered a happy coincidence, for the first time both the foreign minister and the foreign secretary are women in the ministry," Secretary Lamsa said while welcoming Minister Rana to the ministry on Monday.

On the other hand, Foreign Minister Rana also said that she was happy to see the women officers of the ministry during her speech.

62-year-old Rana, the wife of former Prime Minister and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, has been a member of the Constituent Assembly twice and has been a three-time MP. Although her husband has been the prime minister for 5 times, Rana has become a minister for the first time. Rana was the chairman of the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee under the House of Representatives.

She has worked on women's rights, reproductive rights, equal rights in citizenship and property, campaign against violence against women, women's representation in politics, etc. In addition, Rana was also the coordinator of the Women's Parliamentary Coordination Committee during the drafting of the Constitution. She has been associated with various non-governmental organizations in Nepal for gender equality, social work and women and children.

Rana's identity was more discussed as Deuba's wife than as the leader of the Nepali Congress. But this time, after the parliamentary elections, Rana, who was elected as a proportional member of the Congress, presented herself a little differently. She also became the chairman of the committee. And now she became the foreign minister in alliance with UML.

Rana said that after taking oath in the ministry, the foreign relations should be strengthened together. She mentioned that since history is the first big responsibility, it should be used properly. She said that Nepal is not dependent on anyone and it is necessary to carry this situation to future generations. Mentioning that the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be significant in the prosperity of the country, the newly appointed Minister Rana made it clear that the relations between the countries with which diplomatic relations are maintained will be made more effective.

She said, "This is an important responsibility in history". Ours is a small landlocked nation. We are in the middle of very big countries. Our forefathers have saved our country so far, we have a history of not surrendering. We have to maintain this history for future generations.' Rana also said that all political parties have the same point of view on Nepal's foreign policy. He said that Nepal believes in Panchsheel.

'Today's politics is different from the past. Even before this, there were such troubles. Even at that time, the country worked well together," she said. "Even now, we should all work together to expand international relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can play a very big role in the prosperity of the country. We have diplomatic relations with various countries. It will have to be made more effective.'

Foreign Minister Rana also said that she would take initiatives to return the Nepalis recruited in the Russian army. She said, "The previous government had also taken the initiative to return the Nepalis who had joined the Russian and Ukrainian army. This government will also take initiatives to return the Nepalis.' She also said that they will take initiatives to find and bring back Bipin Joshi, who was captured and disappeared by the Palestinian rebel group Hamas.

Foreign Minister Rana also said that the border issue will be resolved on the basis of facts and evidence. She said that there is more information than before and GIS (Geographic Information (System) and satellite view) are available. When asked about how the border relationship with India will be resolved, Rana said, 'Geography, history and The problem can be solved on the basis of GPS (Global Positioning System). I don't believe in magic. As Rana said, there are two geopolitical complications in the world And the challenge is to advance the bilateral relations and cooperation with the US and other countries in the national interests.
