  • Nepalese importers are suffering since 8 months

Indian Railways did not allow a single rail rack loading from 23rd February midnight to 29th February midnight for Sirsia dry port, the first and only dry port of Nepal connected to Indian railway network.

Indian Railways has done this by showing the problem of traffic jams on India's railways Yes . After the railway service was affected, Nepali importers who imported goods from third countries and wanted to import goods from India had to pay detention (delay) fees to the shipping line companies during this period of one week. Generally, the Nepalese importer should return the container to the shipping line companies within a week.

Not only Indian Railway's own but also the train racks of Konkar, Hind Terminals, Pristine, JM Bakshi, DP World, which were operating train services at Sirsia dry port, were out of work.

Madhav Rajpal, the second vice-president of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says that this problem has been seen repeatedly since about 8 months ago this year and it has caused more distress to Nepali importers. "Nepali importers are using Indian railways as transit to import goods from third countries," he said.

The senior vice president of the association, Hari Gautam, says that since a large number of Nepali importers are connected with the Indian Railways, the Indian side should make the railway route to Nepal easy and seamless. "This problem that we have been experiencing for a long time due to Indian Railways should be solved immediately," he said, "Since transportation by train is comparatively cheap and easy, Nepali importers especially when importing goods from third countries prefer Indian railways for transporting containers and other goods. .'

Sirsia dry port operating company Pristine Valley sources said that even though the Indian Railways has opened loading for Birgunj from Thursday, a week-long disruption will increase the problem of traffic jams on the Indian railways.

"At present, 800 containers of Nepalese importers, 500 in Visakhapatnam port and 300 in Kolkata port, are stored in Indian ports," said an official of Pristine Valley, who did not want to be named. The traffic jams on the railway route will increase, it will create obstacles in the circular system of railways from India to Nepal. When there is a problem in the railways, the Nepali importers bring containers and other goods by land in trucks and the cost of transportation increases.

Due to frequent disruptions of the Indian Railways, the number of cargo trains coming to Birganj has been decreasing for the last 8 months, said the Pristine Valley official.

'In the past, there were 20 to 25 train racks per day at Sirsia dry port, but now it has dropped to 8 to 9 per day,' he said.

The internal problem of Indian Railways has affected the transport of chemical fertilizers to Nepal especially during the agricultural season and there is a shortage of fertilizers in Nepal.
