Turkish Ambassador to Nepal Firat Sunel has said that the failed coup attempt in Turkey eight years ago is the most important event in recent history. There was a coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016.
Turkey is now celebrating the eighth anniversary of the same event. Ambassador Sunel made it clear that while celebrating the anniversary, the nation reflected on one of the most important events in its recent history. Razdun Sunel is the Ambassador of Turkey to India, Nepal and Bhutan.
He said that the failed uprising was an important moment and not only for the immediate impact of the event, but also for the political, social and economic landscape of Turkey. He said that it will also have a lasting effect.
He mentioned that more than 250 people died and more than 2,000 were injured on the night of the incident. On the morning of July 16, the Turkish government regained control and the coup attempt was aborted. Every year July 15th is celebrated as Democracy and National Unity Day in Turkey. Ceremonies and events are held across the country to honor the heroes who fought for their country and to celebrate the Turkish nation's ease.
