Bangladesh's interim government on Tuesday issued an order to grant 'magisterial' powers to the army. The directive enables the armed forces to exercise expanded powers to ensure internal security within the country.

The Ministry of General Administration of Bangladesh has issued this order explaining the powers of the Special Executive Magistrate under Section 12 (1) and 17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 .

This order allows only authorized officers of the Bangladesh Army to exercise this special power throughout the country for the next 60 days.

ANI has obtained a copy of the order confirming the expansion of the army's role in maintaining security in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Army has accepted the acquisition and exercise of magisterial powers .

'The news that the army has acquired magisterial powers is true', confirmed Colonel Sami Ud Daula Chaudhary, director of the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

Earlier, under Sheikh Hasina's government, a curfew was imposed on July 19 and the army was deployed across the country to support civil authorities .

A month ago, a student-led movement called Sheikh Hasina He was deposed from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh. After that, an interim government was formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus.

'The main responsibility of the army "It is to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bangladesh," a senior army general elaborated on the expanded role of the army, "but they also carry out internal security duties in nation-building activities, disaster management inside and outside Bangladesh, and assisting civil forces."
