The West Bengal government has removed the Kolkata police chief and two top officials from the health ministry. After the rape of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the doctors of West Bengal have been demonstrating in protest.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that after a meeting with the doctors, it was agreed to remove the Kolkata police chief, the director of the medical college and the director of health services.

The body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor was found on August 9 at the government hospital where he worked. Since then, thousands of junior doctors in the state are on strike. After the incident, there was an outcry across India and there was concern about the safety of health workers.

The protesting doctors have put forward five main demands, including justice for victims, dismissal of senior police officers and increased security for health workers.

"We agreed to remove the director of health services and the director of the medical college," Chief Minister Banerjee said after the meeting with the doctors, "According to the doctors' demand, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal will also be removed."

Banerjee stated that the health services were affected by the doctors' strike and asked them to return to work . But Aniket Mahato, the spokesperson of the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front group, which is leading the protest, said that the protest will continue until the investigation of the incident is completed.
