Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced his resignation from the post. Addressing the workers in Delhi on Sunday, Kejriwal announced that he will resign within two days and will not return to the post of Chief Minister until the people give him a 'certificate of sincerity'.

I will sit on the chief minister's chair only after the people have given proof of honesty and integrity. After being released from jail, I want to pass the fire test," he said. Kejriwal has also demanded that Delhi assembly elections be held in November. Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for next February .

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called Kejriwal's resignation announcement as 'propaganda'. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari claimed that Kejriwal did a 'stunt' after realizing that the people of Delhi were against him by tweeting on the social network X.

Kejriwalan, who was jailed in the alleged Delhi liquor corruption case, was released on Friday after the order of the Supreme Court. He appealed to the Supreme Court against the arrest made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was released after the order of the bench of Supreme Court Justices Suryakant and Ujjal Bhuiyan.

Although the hearing of the case against him ended on September 5, the court reserved the verdict. The Supreme Court has said that Kejriwal has been released on bail keeping in mind 'personal freedom' as there is no possibility of a full trial being completed immediately. Justice Bhuiyan said that the basis on which Kejriwal has been detained by CBI and ED (Enforcement Directorate) is a travesty of justice.
