A military airstrike in Myanmar's northern Shan state has killed 11 civilians and wounded 11 others, a spokesman for an ethnic armed group fighting the junta said on Friday.

"The army bombarded two areas in Namhkam town around 1 am local time on Friday," Lwe Yai Oo of the Taang National Liberation Army (TNLA) said.

According to him, 11 people died and 11 others were injured in the attack. An office of a local political party has been damaged in the attack.

Namhkam is about five kilometers away from the border of China's Yunnan Province . Last year, TNLA fighters claimed control of the city after weeks of fighting.

Photos posted on social media showed people carrying an injured young man from the rubble.

A video shows several buildings being damaged . AFP reporters geolocating the video to a low-com site and saying the location has never appeared online.
