Chautchandra Parva (Moon Worship) has been completed tonight in entire Terai Madhes including Mahottari district by offering arghya to the rising moon. This festival, which is considered as a great festival of devotion and faith, was completed tonight after the moon rose in the sky by offering arghya of various items to the moon.

This festival is also referred to as Chourchan festival in the villages of Mithilanchal.

The senior women of each house have fasted all day and worshiped the moon at night. In this festival, it is customary to eat fruits, sweets, curd, puri and kheer. For this festival, bananas, apples, coconuts, pomegranates, mangoes, pears, corn, lemons and various kinds of sweets and curds were prepared in all the houses of Terai Madhes two/three days ago. After cooking, they offered the moon god and completed the festival.

As Friday evening came, all the members of the house were busy waiting for the moon to rise. As soon as the moon rises, the women of the house made various rangolis in the courtyard and put all the materials they had brought and performed the puja.

After the woman has done the puja, all the members of the house take turns offering various fruits placed in the yard to the moon and asking for various boons. After that, it is customary for all the members of the family to sit in the courtyard and accept prasad. This festival is popular because the tradition of gathering all the members of the house together and eating together strengthens the relationship.
