Out of 11 under Birganj Customs Office, only 4 are in Chhoti Kansar Chanchanal. At present only thori and Bishwa of Parsa and Simraungadh and Matiarwa small customs of Bara are in operation. After a long struggle by the residents of both municipalities for the re-operation of the Simraungarh small customs office and thori small customs office, which were closed after the corona epidemic, these small customs offices have been operational since the last financial year.

Birgunj Customs Office has currently assigned 1/1 Naib Subba and office assistant in each small customs. Raghulal Karn, Information Officer of Birganj Customs Office, says that there is no plan to re-operate the remaining 7 small customs offices. "There is no plan to re-operate the 7 small customs that could not be put into operation immediately," he said, "we also have a shortage of staff."

Some small customs that were operating in the past were closed during the Maoist conflict. Still Parsa and Baraka Kawahi, Sirsia, Kachorwa, Aloon, Piparpati, Jankitola and Gad Prasauni customs have not yet come into operation. Among these, there is a possibility that this customs operation will not be carried out in the future as Gad Prasauni Customs is near the integrated security check post.

Most of the border markets with small customs have now turned into big markets. There is a large number of Nepalese who go to the Indian market and return from there every day. Since there is no customs office at the border, the government is also losing a large amount of revenue daily.

Nepali market traders in the border buy goods from the Indian market for their shops as well. However, when the armed forces and Nepal police took away those goods, they got angry. Due to lack of customs office, even if they want to pay revenue, they cannot do so.

Birgunj Customs Office Information Officer Karna says that the 4 small customs currently in operation are collecting revenue from 2 to 250,000 rupees per month.
