The Ambassador of Colombia to Nepal, Victor Hugo Echeverri Jarmillo, had a courtesy meeting with Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri. In the meeting held at the Ministry on Monday, the Ministry said that matters including strengthening the diplomatic friendly relations between Nepal and Colombia since 36 years were discussed.

In the meeting, Minister Thakuri expressed his happiness that the Colombian government is going to organize the 16th Conference of the Convention on Biological Diversity and wished it success. "I have also heard a lot about the dense forests of Colombia," Minister Thakuri said, "we also have natural resources like mountains and forests."

He said that 24 percent of the protected area in Nepal is 24,000 Forest Consumer Committees for forest and biological diversity protection, and said that big animals like tigers, rhinoceros, elephants, mountains and forests are our priority for protection and we want to make them the main base of tourism.

Minister Thakuri mentioned the need to discuss the structure of biodiversity conservation strategies and plans and stressed that developing and underdeveloped countries should pay attention to the communities dependent on biodiversity.
