National Independent Party MP Dr. Chanda Karki Bhandari has said that the Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission should not be allowed to enter the private sector. She also made it clear that when the authority intervenes in the private sector, there will be more problems.

In the Wednesday meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Karki said that in the bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, the Commission for Investigating Abuse of Authority in the Private Sector should not be empowered to investigate corruption. She said that the authority should not enter the private sector as it would cause problems for the authority itself.

'Though it has been proposed to increase the power of the Abuse of Power Investigation Commission, the commission has not been able to effectively deal with the current issues in a timely manner . The commission itself gets into more trouble by getting involved in banks, financial institutions and other sectors . Therefore, before increasing the jurisdiction, it is appropriate to increase the capacity of the commission and put an end to the corruption cases in time,' said MP Karki.

MP Karki said that provision should be made in the bill regarding political corruption. She said, 'Political corruption has made the country hollow . Corruption under the guise of policy decisions should be investigated immediately. Whether political corruption has been brought under the scope of the authority's investigation by the decision of the Council of Ministers, if not, let it be done. Let the Commission on Abuse of Authority be made autonomous.'

MP Karki also objected to the provision that the corrupt person can be released if he is not prosecuted within five years. She said that those involved in any corruption should not be freed by setting a limit .

'It seems that the 5-year limitation made in Section 16 of this Act is an attempt to create an environment that gives immunity to the corrupt . While the country and the people are gripped by corruption scandals, and even though we are fighting against corruption and corruption to see if new parliamentarians like us can leave all their work and contribute something here, today a proposal has been made to set a five-year time limit to facilitate the release of the corrupt, she said. I want to make it clear to the people that this party is not acceptable. This proposal is trying to give an opportunity to the corrupt to escape easily. We want to strongly, strongly oppose the attempt to protect the criminal from the legal structure.'

The bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 is under consideration in the State System and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives. The bill is being debated weekly.
